Gratitude Challenge 14 and 15

I did write my gratitude list yesterday, but I wrote it about the day I met my husband and I wanted to keep in private. I, however, really suggest if you have been married a long time writing a list like that. It took my whole body back to those days.

I am actually feeling really anxious today because I am a teacher and we are going back to school with all kids in-person in January in Minnesota. It has been a year of a lot of transition and another one seems overwhelming. This practice however makes me see everything that is going right and gives me strength to not spiral into a fit of anxiety.

  1. Yesterday, I talked to my Buddhist teacher for a long time on the phone. I am grateful to have the support of many Buddhist priests in my life. People who have committed their lives to teaching the dharma. I told her about my gratitude practiced and she told me she could see an opening in me. We talked about the Buddhist belief that what you do in this moment affects 7 generations into the past and 7 generations into the future.
  2. I love the Buddhist teaching about going beneath the story line and how it relates to gratitude practice. Basically, we are always telling a story about our lives in our heads, but if we can see beyond our stories the world expands to us.
  3. My mom came over today and we watched Miracle on 34th Street with my kids. We all loved it.
  4. I took a nap under my electric blanket.
  5. My husband picked up DeGidio’s for dinner. I got gnocchi with Gorgonzola cream sauce and toasted hazelnuts. It came with soft buttery bread.
  6. Last night, my husband, my kids and I watched Casablanca.
  7. The kids and I had fun going to Petco and doing Christmas shopping for our dog and our guinea pigs.
  8. My son is so excited about Christmas. He has all of his presents wrapped and under the tree.
  9. I have been doing 21 Day Fix, a workout program, with my daughter. We are on day 12 and haven’t missed a day yet. I think this has something to do with my gratitude practice. I have been doing research on gratitude and have discovered people who practice gratitude are more likely to reach their goals.
  10. I am reading a good book, The Henna Artist.
  11. I am also reading a really good book with my son, The Bridge Home, about homeless low caste children in India. I am so grateful that he will read books like that with me.
  12. I don’t have to commute to work tomorrow.
  13. Kids are going back to school at the end of January so we don’t need to figure out how to transport them in for ACCESS testing.
  14. I only have two days of work this week.
  15. I took a long, hot shower.
  16. I love when my dog rests her head on me.
  17. I went to Aldi’s and they had frozen raspberries in stock. I love frozen raspberries in my smoothies.
  18. I have a lot of support in my life – an online mental health coach, Buddhist teachers, good friends, a super supportive husband.
  19. I am healthy and strong.
  20. I am grateful for gratitude practice.
